Actually all the women in my family. The women in my family are from pioneer stock, with good strong values and sense of worth. They thought by example and were willing to answer questions if you had any. They held and comforted you when you were hurt or sad. They supported you when you needed it. They were not politically correct nor did they need equality because they worked side by side by men and women alike. They took no nonsense off those fools who felt sorry for them or wanted them to change. They would smile and politely decline the foolishness of those who labeled everything as male or female. I salute them all on this Mother’s day! I love them all!
Just enjoying a Fairly nice day alone with my fur babies. The sun is out, the yard is a doggy mud bath and I get to work on my writings and art with no one to bother me … at least until tomorrow if the hubster decides to come home early! And yes, I do enjoy St. Pattie’s day, even though it is the celebration of a man to rid Ireland of the Druids. I just take the day as an excuse to veg and enjoy snacks and movies. No harm in that is there? I am not celebrating what the guy did, nor the guy himself, just the fun of wearing green and having a day to myself to party. Just have a wonderful day OK?
I wanted to wish all my followers and friends on Word Press (and those who work for WP) a VERY Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you and your loved ones enjoy this mushy and sentimental day to it’s fullest!
The summer is winding down and we will soon be closing the park down for the fall/winter season. At least the museum and gift shop part of the park. Next week my husband takes our son down to Rapid to set him up in his apartment and then the next Monday he starts his classes. I have another dental apt. the week of the 22nd so at least I will see him after he starts school before going home. He has not really been on his own for over a week and then he was not far from his grandmother’s house. Not sure how she will take it either. Not really happy about the distance even though at the same time I know this will be good for him. After Labor day I will be concentrating on my hand sketched Christmas cards and Jewelry sets which I am hoping to sell at the fall/winter(?) fair this year. Plus I have to set up all the cards I send out to family and friends as well! Didn’t get the chance to get all the Christmas stuff done while I had money coming in but hopefully my art studio will give me inspiration to actually get stuff done to sell! Anyway, hope your summer was great and will continue blogging til (at least) the end of 2016!
There are times when one has to think … Is this all worth it? Not trying to be cynical or even glib, but this is one of those days in the holiday season when I have to wonder why I am doing anything for the season. Now don’t get me wrong, I happen to like decorating, festive music and the like but when ideas fall short and money is super non existent and family doesn’t even try but expect you to carry the brunt of everything I ask you … Is it all worth it?!?!?!
As has been the tradition since 2009 I once again presented Jim Thompson (a local South Dakota radio personality). It is a treat that I decided to give Jim because of how welcome he made me feel in 2008 when I put out a booth for Teas N More. I was giving samples of some of my baked goods, including home baked Strawberry Cheesecake. He tried a sample and said he would love to have this. I told him that I would bring one to him all for himself the following year. He didn’t take me seriously. He does now! He has received one a year ever since.
Jim is a wonderful man with down to earth values. I didn’t get photos of him, but I did of the cake. I also found that he will not his hourly show at the end of May, though he is doing a small 5 min. segment twice a day for a bit now. He will be missed. Oh, and I did tell him I will continue the once a year cheesecake for as long as I can even if he doesn’t have his radio show.
Tomorrow I will be baking the strawberry Cheesecake for the radio personality down in Spearfish, SD. I have been making one for him each year at this time since 2009. I do it because in 2008 I was at a local Farm and Home show selling my teas and giving samples of cheesecake and other baked goods. He went to all the other booths but came back and sat at mine and made me feel welcome. I told him for that he would get one from me every year at the same show. He thought I was kidding! When he came back the following year I presented him with the cheesecake and have been doing so ever since. Friday is the show and tomorrow I will bake the cake putting the topping on Friday AM. I will post photos of this tomorrow and Friday. I do know it never makes it back to Spearfish. He usually shares it with a few fiends. His show is Country Cafe of the Airwaves and he is a wonderful person.
