I thought electronics were suppose to make things easier! Now I have to carry a book around to handle all the new “Strong” passwords, phrases and codes for all my ATM cards, emails, vendors, banks, and other things that these things are required of us! Lady forbid that I transpose a number or forget to update the book each time I add or revise something. Passwords use to be 4 letters/numbers &/or symbols! Now they are 8+ and if you don’t do it right, you are locked out. Sometimes I think we should get rid of all these devices and life would be so much easier!
There is no denying it, but computers are making their presence known in the modern Ag industry. Sure there are groups which won’t use technology for their farms, but most of the larger ranches and farms as well as some of the newer up and coming smaller operations are using computers to track their boundaries, soil samples, map where they plant, what they feed their stock and more. It is no wonder that companies such as Titan, Decisive farming corp. and Case IH are leaders in the development and use of the programs which help the farmer/rancher with their equipment, networking and running of their operations. What I do not understand is why those who are meant to encourage those who wish to enter into this growing field actually try and dissuade us instead. Sure, there are many who are not interested because they want to be in larger cities, but age or gender is no excuse to keep those of us who really want to be a part of this from learning or keeping us out of the loop.
I have (maybe) a chance to go back to college and follow a dream of mine. There are two problems with this … Well, maybe more than two…. In the Dakotas or at least where I live, jobs are few and far between. Not to say there is not a need for trade skills such as nursing, electrical, construction and farm labor, but on my end the four I have listed I can not do or rather have problems with. Nursing. I use to do in home care and helping those who were in the nursing homes. Problem here? I tend to develop gastrial/intestinal problems when working with people who are ill (well, to be honest when I work around people in general). Electrical/construction. What some people find a twinge when touching anything electric, I find it hits me like a ton of bricks, and construction, my knees are bad, I don’t do well with heights and I can’t lift/carry anything over 35 lbs. 50 lbs max as long as it is a saddle or dog kibbles. Farm labor? I am a 55+ year old white female. I still fight to find anyone who will hire me because I am neither male nor Hispanic. So I choose a duel course in CAD-CAM and computer programing… I am not being told that no one is hiring in those areas where I live (big whoop! As if anyone would hire me anyway in this town) and I have to work in a big city because I have to work at the boss’s won’t hire independent contractors due to the fact they want to keep the work as their own (As if I want to keep what I do for someone else!) so I am told that this is not for me. Problem is I have no interest in any other courses, and the guy I have been working with is less than enthusiastic plus hasn’t gotten back to me due to sever health issues! I am signed up with the college, but not sure if it will happen… decisions, decisions! Not sure what to do next… Just saying.
I wonder why they think we are stupid? I updated my Yahoo account about three weeks ago, and Yahoo keeps sending me requests to “update your yahoo account” because it is out of date. And Microsoft has made all their free games only a three week trial and won’t let me play them any more. I am also, because I refuse to opt into their monthly rental on their Microsoft office, getting demands that I upgrade to their rental because my version (the last one they put onto a DVD) is “out of date!”
W.T.F! I will not rent a program which in the long run costs me more than one I down load off a disk that has everything I need on it and can use for many years on any computer I own for less than the rental itself! And their guys had the GALL to tell me that if I can’t afford their so called cheep rentals how could I afford a computer in the first place? Now I somehow got one note onto my computer. I have tried to uninstall it and it says the program is not on my computer! If it isn’t then why must I sign onto it before using my computer?
I want less corporate interference in my life as well as less government! Ever since I upgraded to windows 10 my computer has been a nightmare! Microsoft and now Yahoo! LEAVE ME, MY COMPUTER and WELL ENOUGH ALONE!!!!
As the year rushes to a close (again) I have come to the conclusion that we are relying too much on technology, and the clock. We have become a slave to time and technology and because of this we become too wrapped up in these things and let them rule our lives. I also seem to see that with the upcoming holidays as well. All three tend to stress us out without us realizing it. We become wrapped up in presents, decorations, fancy clothes/parties. We want to emulate those who have money and yet no matter how hard we strive to reach that perfection we find ourselves no closer and full of stress. When we get stressed, our reaction is to eat, binge, cry a lot and want to pull our hair out. We gain weight we do not need, and tension we can do without. I know. I don’t work in the business world, so I don’t have a steady income which may or may not rid me of some of that stress. I also have let go of some of the technology, or rather refuse it. Time? I hope that I am trying not to get wound up in the hectic world ruled by time and it’s restraints. I know that I am trying hard to become more comfortable in the world without being trapped by its hooks of having to do something by a certain time. I am trying to get my crafts out to those who might be looking for something different and yet not be tied down by the need for deadlines and money. It may never work out, or maybe it might. My wish for all you who read this is that your can find your ground and not be caught in the web which tightens its grip around us all and tries to get us hooked on all these things which stress us out and make us ill.
I have been bored with technology lately. The phones they are trying to get us to buy eat up more time and memory just so we can have “access to the world” information, Satellites actually give literally ANYONE access to where you are located at any time, and people can track you whither or not your phone is turned on. Facebook (I have heard) is planning to force people to give out information whither we want it or not, and are planning to make us pay for the privilege of keeping in touch with our families. I find TV filled with stupidity and lies. We are tied to our homes by tech, as well as our cars which are getting close to thinking for us as well. I made the comment to a friend that we should drop all the tech and go back to nature by going off the grid. He said we/I would never make it a day. I tend to beg to differ. I feel the only thing I would miss would be my music and keeping in touch with family and friends, but I have been without a TV since 2005 and have found it refreshing since 90% of TV are scripted reality shows, bleeding heart liberals who what us to cry at everything and give what money we have earned to those who refuse to work, or politicians. I do like my DVD’s, but if I go off grid, I would not have electricity for either that, radio, cds or computer. Funny thing, those I do not consider priority. Sooooo, who else could think they could make it without tech hanging over their heads or chaining them to their homes, cars etc.?
I tend to wonder why we have computers, “Smart Phones” Robots and the like. Surely it is not to make our lives simpler or more convenient. Smart Phones (droids, and the like) use up more battery and available space quicker than a land line, and you have to carry them everywhere so you can send garbled messages with symbols and abbreviated words so others can find you all the time and call you no matter what time it is or where you are. Then you have your computers. You spend more money every time the big companies (M.S./Apple etc.) decides to upgrade even when what you are using is fine and the next step up is crap! Then you have to go in and do a “De-frag” and “Disk clean up” sometimes having to send the computer back to its original state several weeks/months before you started this because some program or other decided it was not compatible to the program you have on the computer or your laptop/desktop/smartpad gets a virus and needs kicks off your printer or other hardware you need to get your work out on time. And don’t get me started on all the constant adding to passwords to where you can’t recall what it was because there are so many numbers symbols and letters so only hackers can get onto your sites! Now they want you to give a cell phone number for “added security” even if you don’t have one! If I could chuck it all and not need all this tech in order to do my work, make my orders and post here to the amusement of others whom (I heartily believe) Understand where I am coming from with all this, I would be a happier, saner and more relaxed person! Yeah, it took me over 6 hours to reinstall the printer program again with all the error messages and the like. As I said, a HUMBLING experience.
