We had our first official frost a few days ago. The leaves are finally turning and starting to fall. Kotah and the squirrel are having a “Love/Hate” relationship going. The squirrel will wait until Kotah is an inch away than he (she?) will run with that inch always between them. When the squirrel is up on the roof or in the tree he/she mocks Kotah who sits under the tree mouthing off.
I decided that I needed to get rid of much of my items from before moving to the Dakotas. It is taking a lot of time, going through and weeding out what I will keep and what I am ridding myself of. Next week I will start one of my first official baskets since the museum shut down for the season … and it is not one of the ones the hubster wants me to work on.
My shop is almost ship-shape. Still need to go through the files and rearrange them to suit my own quarkiness. I even have a set of shelves to house my craft books and display some of my finished baskets! Now if I can get people around here to understand I don’t need to be in public to sell my items!
What ever happened to the days when people went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, when customers could contact someone in person or by phone if there was a problem, where sellers didn’t treat you like you had a disease and actually knew that you are the one paying for THEIR services and product rather than believing that they are “God’s gift” and you should worship the ground they walked on! Just saying. I ordered a CD for my Art studio containing the contents of 36 books. It was suppose to have arrived no later than the 24th. It is now the 28th, so I went to the contact seller place and guess what! No contact information just vague questions and answers. I am a business woman and would be sure to keep in contact with my clients ESPECIALLY if there were a problem. This is my rant for the week.
Funny how one forgets the foolishness of youth! I DON’T drink, yet I do keep a couple wine coolers back for company (IE Mom). Those have been in my cupboard for over1 1/2 years now. I was so keyed up yesterday that instead of taking a 1/3 of a cup with Ice, I drank down a whole bottle. Needless to say I woke up with a migraine, an upset stomach and cotton mouth.
I swore that I would never overindulge again, yet I ignored that promise and paid the piper for it. So today will be a slow day since I have to drive my son home from Rapid tomorrow which means early down and no hangovers. Chores will help (laundry, baskets, and a few other things) keep me occupied. Some gal called me up and asked if I had time to go over some items and I flat out said this was one of my “Bad days” instead of saying “hangover.”
I do have good and bad days, usually brought on by stress and being around people. This year seems to be more stressful than most. I need to work to pay off some bills which are hanging over me (no help for hubster there) plus I promised my friend. Not next year though! I am having issues with the whole being in public thing again. Just wish I could handle it better, then I wouldn’t need the wine coolers for a crutch to get me wound down!
Seems that winter has finally broken its hold on S. Dakota. Despite the wind I have found it to be more of the August weather rather than May. I started out with a sweat shirt and had to pair down to my skirt and sleeveless shirt (I wear this style shirt all year round, but usually layered). I mowed the lawn and it was just dirt/dust that came up. I am afraid to do the weed & feed I would not have ANY green on the lawn area. So far with the dogs most of the grass is gone. I am planning on doing the 6′ fence this year, at least on one side. Wish it could be more but unless I can get my craft business off the ground that will be the best I can do. What do you think about caning and basket weaving? I can fit both in the little studio without much hassle. More later!
There is no denying it, but computers are making their presence known in the modern Ag industry. Sure there are groups which won’t use technology for their farms, but most of the larger ranches and farms as well as some of the newer up and coming smaller operations are using computers to track their boundaries, soil samples, map where they plant, what they feed their stock and more. It is no wonder that companies such as Titan, Decisive farming corp. and Case IH are leaders in the development and use of the programs which help the farmer/rancher with their equipment, networking and running of their operations. What I do not understand is why those who are meant to encourage those who wish to enter into this growing field actually try and dissuade us instead. Sure, there are many who are not interested because they want to be in larger cities, but age or gender is no excuse to keep those of us who really want to be a part of this from learning or keeping us out of the loop.
The summer is winding down and we will soon be closing the park down for the fall/winter season. At least the museum and gift shop part of the park. Next week my husband takes our son down to Rapid to set him up in his apartment and then the next Monday he starts his classes. I have another dental apt. the week of the 22nd so at least I will see him after he starts school before going home. He has not really been on his own for over a week and then he was not far from his grandmother’s house. Not sure how she will take it either. Not really happy about the distance even though at the same time I know this will be good for him. After Labor day I will be concentrating on my hand sketched Christmas cards and Jewelry sets which I am hoping to sell at the fall/winter(?) fair this year. Plus I have to set up all the cards I send out to family and friends as well! Didn’t get the chance to get all the Christmas stuff done while I had money coming in but hopefully my art studio will give me inspiration to actually get stuff done to sell! Anyway, hope your summer was great and will continue blogging til (at least) the end of 2016!
It seems that the men of this town are at it again. One has left his so called friends in a lurch by taking a job without discussing it first and so abandoning a steady business he was suppose to be building. And I just found out that I may have a partner I neither wanted nor needed who is going to help “keep me in my place” by dictating to me how and what I am to put in my “shop” to sell! (no “pagan” items which to them include jewelry, candles, herbs, incense etc.).
It is funny how the people I had hoped would stand by me and stand up for my rights have turned on me and are now siding with those I told I wanted nothing to do with! These self same people pulled this back around 1992-95 when the got involved with people I said I wanted nothing to do with, and they basically took our inventory, sold it all and vanished leaving us with tons of bills that they, not we, ran up! Funny how after they said they would listen and trust me, they are pulling us back into the same situation as back then, and they still won’t heed my warnings! I am wondering if they will ever learn!
Sorry this is not in a true order. This is the shed project that my husband, son and I have been working on. The lab is Sadie and the trellis is the entrance to the back yard. It is getting there. And it is taking longer and is more expensive than we counted on, but in the end this workshop will give me a place to do my crafts and will last longer than the prefab sheds that the local hardware store sells. This one is done right!
I use to be in retail, and now I spend part of my time in a museum gift shop. Normally Machines and I have a cautious relationship at best, but today was one of those days I wanted to throw the cash register against the wall! Now I know I didn’t have a lot of sales, but according to the register, I had over $138 worth. Now I am not stupid. Math usually is a good subject for me, but the bloody til didn’t match up. I wonder if the machine never cleared on Tues. after I cashed it out. I mean I balanced perfectly in the morning and when I double checked in the evening but a few rocks and a couple of $18 dollar purchases do not come out to 138, no matter how it is sliced! I HATE MACHINES!!!!
I have probably have posted something like this before, but it is becoming a problem again. I want to start something so I can make money. I buy product. I get ready to put things together, and WHAM! I get “You need to do it this way!” “You can’t sell this, no one will buy it!” “You are wasting MY money.” and the ever popular “You procrastinate! Your projects will never get off the ground!”
I don’t mind advice, as a matter of fact I like “constructive” criticism. But when someone who doesn’t have an ounce of craft experience nor has taking the art classes I have taken, then says he knows better how to do what I enjoyed doing (until he stuck his nose into it) then I want to pull out my hair and scream to the top of my lungs. As it is (an example) I decide I want to make a few dollars selling cookies, breads and muffins. His thought? I should open a bakery and sell fancy pastries. I want to paint (whimsical/abstract) His thoughts? I should be painting JUST flowers, and slow down on what I am doing or I will “RUIN” it. I decide to try my hand a wood burning… You need to do heraldry, etc. Something which should relax me is now suppose to be this super project! I can’t win!
